Even if the PS3 got off to a slightly slow start in 2007, don’t let that fool you … the PS3 is gearing up for a big year with some hot releases anticipated. Here’s a rundown of three games coming out in 2008 … EA’s NFL Tour, Free Radical Design’s HAZE, and Konami’s Coded Arms Assault.
Hailing from EA Sport’s BIG division, it can be considered part of their successful NFL Street series. They abandoned streets and beaches in favor of larger spaces for the spectator. No more games with barrels and street side walls, you’re playing in front of huge crowds with fireworks and a full 9 yards. There are also some developments in the game: if the player starts to call, they will be given the opportunity to break through, speed up the receiver or take a small additional blow. Street gamers will see the familiar “Gamebreaker” power elements, much of the game is left unchanged, but the graphics appear improved. This game is expected to be out on January 8, so get ready!
When playing as a recruiter in a corporate army owned by a large peacekeeping organization that is supposed to be Mantel, you are expected to play this game at least twice. Why twice? Well once on both sides clearly, that’s because playing on the Mantel side you realize that you and your fellow workers are randomly infused with a drug called Nectar, but that leads to some unexpected results. The other time, siding with the rebels, he was fighting fiercely. With great graphics and artificial intelligence that doesn’t seem useless … this gem will launch in the United States on January 18.
Konami released a game on PSP early in the system’s life under the names Coded Arms and after succeeding with the title, they went ahead and made another game in the PS3 series. Like HAZE, Coded Arms Assault is a futuristic FPS where you play as a soldier. Your character is clearly a young hacker who gained access to a system he was not supposed to be in and was put into a virtual war. Hex bullets are replaced and enemies are vaporized. With the game running for Unreal Engine 3, expect some great looking graphics to match the “digital” effects. This game does not have an official release date yet, but only from its appearance, you will find out when it is released.
